2021 World Hydropower Congress

The 2021 World Hydropower Congress will convene ahead of the Glasgow Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26). It will feature the launch of the Hydropower Sustainability Standard on industry accreditation, and culminate in the San José Declaration on Sustainable Hydropower, expressing a set of broad principles, commitments and recommendations for global and sustainable hydropower development. The Declaration will be taken to COP 26 in November.

The 2021 Congress is organized by the International Hydropower Association (IHA) and hosted in partnership with the Government of Costa Rica and Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE). The three-week, virtual event will be free to attend.

The Congress aims to drive innovation and advance sustainable hydropower outcomes for communities and the environment, further to urgent demands across the sector to increase installed capacity and meet global net zero emissions by 2050.
