Hosted by Colombo Municipal Council and CityNet, and marking CityNet’s 30th anniversary, the meeting will convene under the theme ‘Our City, Our Future: Sharing Local Solutions for Sustainable Development’. The event will provide a peer-to-peer learning platform for city mayors, civic leaders and international experts to collaborate on climate change, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and other urban development issues. Participants will address, among other issues, ways to localize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrate local action in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and SDG implementation.
CityNet is a regional network of local authorities for the management of human settlements in the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1987 with the support of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the network includes cities, municipalities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private companies and research centers.
