With the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set to expire on 31 December 2015, 5 April 2013 represents the day at which there will be 1,000 days left to achieve the goals. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has requested all UN offices to recognize the day as a short-term advocacy moment to reiterate commitments to accelerating progress and raise awareness on MDG achievements, rather than as a countdown.
